Design
When we hear the word DESIGN, most of us first think of art, like a pleasing decorative pattern, or perhaps a well laid out garden. However, design goes far beyond the surface level. When thinking about the layout of the buttons and controls of a car, we recognize that some automobiles are better DESIGNED than others, we can experience how a properly DESIGNED public transit or highway system can result in a more efficient and pleasing experience. Well DESIGNED government operates efficiently, fairly, and responsibly while a building DESIGNED to be a school will look and feel quite differently from a cathedral. What binds all of these designs together is a concept called Human Centered Design. Human Centered Design is a process and ethic that places the human experience at the center of design. This professional learning page is a resource for you to engage in human centered design in a classroom setting. As such, this page seeks to accomplish 3 goals:
- (1) Introduce you to the process of design called DESIGN THINKING
- (2) Introduce you to the skills, attributes, and qualities that a designer embodies called the DESIGN ABILITIES
- (3) Provide you with ideas, procedures, and ways to have a classroom that is DESIGN CENTERED
